Seniors With Cognitive Decline Experience Lasting Care Solutions At A-1 Home Care

Does you or a loved one suffer from dementia or some other form of cognitive decline? The signs are often obvious as the condition worsens: an inability to focus, a worsening memory, and an inability to think rationally are three of the biggest "red flag" indicators that someone is suffering from dementia or Alzheimer's disease.

At A-1 Home Care, seniors with mental diseases don't have to go through them alone, as our helpful mental health care providers offer a litany of helpful home care options such as help with simple household chores, aid with yard work and gardening duties, and transportation to and from doctor's appointments and other existing engagements.

We at A-1 Home Care are the non-medical care agency of choice in the Los Angeles and Orange County communities, as we provide senior care services in cities like Laguna Beach, Garden Grove, Anaheim Hills, Glendale, and Beverly Hills. Despite being deemed a non-medical agency, all of our care givers are fully-certified and must go through an intense background check even before they're granted an employment interview with us.

Our care givers also help remind patients of their medication times, help prepare healthy meals, and even help them clean themselves in the case that they need it.

For more information about the leading senior home care services offered in Southern California, you can visit our website at http://www.sierramadreinhomecare.com/ or give one of our home helpers a call at (626) 287-0250 or (562) 929-8400 today.

Hospice Care Available for Seniors and the Terminally Ill

Some people are unsure of what the term "hospice" means. To put someone in hospice means to put someone under care designed for those who are terminally ill or for those who are very near passing. The reason that hospice was created was to give the elderly and the terminally ill a dignified death, with as little pain as is possible. It makes passing that much easier for both the patient and their families.

Under our Hospice program, A-1 Home Care can not only provide for your loved one a comfortable journey to the other side, but in the comfort of their very own instead of some  strange  facility. Our caregivers are trained with 2 years of experience to administer all facets of care including Senior Care, Companion Care and more!

Heart Healthy Tips/ A-1 Home Care Sierra Madre

February is the month of romance, Valentines Day, and the introduction of spring. But it is also a month for Heart Health Awareness. Health is very important to us at A-1 Home Care, so we will be focusing on this today.

For heart healthy seniors, lots of attention should be paid to eating habits. Heart disease and heart attacks are results of unhealthy lifestyles. We encourage seniors to ask their caregivers to provide clean meals that follow the guidelines below.

You should eat mainly:
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Grains like whole-grain barley, buckwheat, bulgur, millet, quinoa, and sorghum
  • Fat-free or low-fat versions of milk, cheese, yogurt, and other milk products
  • Fish, skinless poultry, lean meats, dry beans, eggs, and nuts

Also, you should limit the amount of foods you eat that contain:
  • Saturated fat
  • Trans fat
  • Cholesterol
  • Sodium
  • Added sugars

Christmas traditions around the Words: Sweden/ A-1 Home Care wishes a Happy Christmas!

The Christmas season in Sweden begins with the Saint Lucia ceremony. Before dawn on the morning of December 13th, the youngest daughter from each family puts on a white robe with a red sash. She wears a crown of evergreens with tall-lighted candles attached to it. She wakes her parents, and serves them with coffee and Lucia buns. The other children accompany her. The boys dress in long white shirts and pointed hats.

This charming custom goes back to Lucia, a Christian virgin martyred for her beliefs at Syracuse in the fourth century. While the tall candles are tradition, they have lately been replaced by electric versions, as to not cause a holiday disaster!

A-1 Home Care provides last minute holiday caregiving services for families in Sierra Madre. Let us know if you have any special or travel related arrangements required!

Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is a time for families- and time honored family recipes. However, it can be a time to try out new recipes as well. Though not as obvious as the turkey, Thanksgiving appetizers play a starring role in game day festivities. Here is a Food Network recipe to whet your appetite before the big meal.

Hot Spinach & Artichoke Dip by Alton Brown
Ingredients
1 cup thawed, chopped frozen spinach
11/2 cups thawed, chopped frozen artichoke hearts
6 ounces cream cheese
1/4 cup sour cream
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/3 cup grated Parmesan
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

Directions

Boil spinach and artichokes in 1 cup of water until tender and drain. Discard liquid. Heat cream cheese in microwave for 1 minute or until hot and soft. Stir in rest of ingredients and serve hot.

Hospice Caregivers in Sierra Madre

In medieval times, hospices were places that lodged, fed and comforted weary travelers on long journeys. Today, hospices provide the same services for journeys of a different sort. A-1 Home Care provides end of life caregiving in Sierra Madre for dying adults and elders.

Even though the roots of the words "hospice" and "hospital" share lineage, hospices evolved just as hospitals became more scientific about curing patients.   Today, dying is considered a medical process that can be minimized with pain management techniques. A-1 Home Care supports elders in their decision to live at home.

A-1 Home Care provides services in Sierra Madre, Pasadena, Altadena, La Crescenta, Alhambra, Rosemead, Arcadia, El Monte and Monterey Park.
